WINNER: INTERPRETATION AUSTRALIA BRONZE AWARD 2012
Download from App stores: Point Nepean
Point Nepean is the traditional lands of the Boon Warrung and forms the eastern entrance to Port Phillip Bay. It is bounded by calm bay waters and the wilds of Bass Strait. Managed by Parks Victoria, trails explore the coastal habitat and heritage architecture.
The Storylines
The isolated and windswept peninsula became Melbourne's principle site for Quarantine. Later, as the city's gold wealth increased and the threat of war loomed, fortifications were built. There were disappearing guns, ammunition magazines and underground tunnels.
Other stories included shipwrecks, the drowning of a prime minister, the army training facility and lovely tales of marine wildlife, birds and the distinctive coastal Moonah tree.
The App
There are four trails to choose from, each taking in a different theme and area of the point.
